Why We Built FillitUp.uk
Petrol prices vary by as much as 15p per litre between stations a few miles apart. Other comparison sites show you what’s cheap near you. FillItUp.uk also shows you what’s cheapest along the route you’re already driving.
The Problem
In the UK, drivers overpay millions of pounds every year simply because they don't always know which nearby station has the cheapest fuel, and in particular, which station on the route they're planning to take.
The Competition and Markets Authority's 2023 road fuel market study found that motorists were paying more than they should, and that price transparency was poor. As a direct result, the government mandated that all UK fuel retailers report their forecourt prices daily via an official API.
We built FillitUp.uk to make that data accessible to everyone, for free, with no registration required.
FillItUp.uk uses data from the official UK Government Fuel Price Transparency API, operated by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). Our use of this public dataset does not imply any endorsement, approval, or affiliation with the UK Government or any government department. FillItUp.uk is an independent product built by Glow New Media Ltd.
How It Works
Live Data
Our server polls the government API every 30 minutes, fetching only prices that have changed since the last poll.
Nearby or By Route
Search by postcode or GPS to find the cheapest station near you. Or switch to Along a Route to see every station on your planned journey, sorted by price.
Route Planning
Enter a start and end postcode and we plot your route, then show every fuel station within your chosen distance so you can fill up cheaply without going out of your way.
Mobile App
The iOS and Android app adds a live map, route planning, and one-tap navigation to your chosen station.
LPG and HVO
We cover fuels most comparison sites ignore. Find LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) stations across the UK, and search for HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) prices at stations that stock it.
One-Tap Navigation
Click Go next to any station to open Google Maps with turn-by-turn directions to that station. In route mode, it routes via the station so you stay on your planned journey.
Free
No adverts, no subscriptions, no login. If you find it useful, a small donation helps keep the servers running.
Who Made This
FillitUp.uk is an innovation project by Glow New Media Ltd , a web design company not far from Liverpool, UK. It started as a simple weekend experiment to see whether the new government API was actually useful. Once we saw the data, we decided to build.
